How we start the day can have a significant effect on how that day goes for us. One way to help the day start right is to send other people an old-fashioned good morning text. Here’s my argument for doing just that.
Start the Day With A Good Morning Text
A good morning text, while seemingly simple, can have a surprising number of positive benefits, both for the sender and the recipient. My partner gives me a wake-up good morning text at 10.00. That’s become part of our thing, even though I’m awake long before they send it.
On the flip side of a good morning text, I message my partner to get ready for bed, as they faff way too much, although now I’ve switched that up to just saying “sweet nightmares”, which is also our thing.
The Benefits Of Starting The Day With A Good Morning Text
It might seem trivial to start the day with a good morning text, or some version of that, like “have a good day”, but it shows we’re thinking about the other person (Antonio, 2019). It doesn’t take long, just a couple of minutes at most, but the benefits to our relationships are priceless.
Who doesn’t like knowing that someone cares about them, whether it’s a partner, a friend, or a parent? Think of it as sending someone a microjoy. You might not be able to see them smile, but you’ll know they appreciate it, and will miss it if it stops.
According to Swain and Pati (2020), in India, it’s so common to send people they know a good morning text that it’s an accepted habit even between acquaintances and friends of friends. But it doesn’t stop there. In Taiwan, sending a good morning text and memes helps older people connect (Lee, 2024). No more so than during covid.
Memes being sent as a good morning text are also popular among Indian men, according to Banks (2022). They find memes and then customise them with their own text before sending them as their good morning text.
Such acts help boost our mood and help put us in a more positive mindset (The Economic Times, 2025). A form of kindness we could benefit from nowadays, where too often we’re just fed a diet of negative news and information.
It can also help with reducing stress and anxiety, as knowing someone is thinking of them can provide a sense of comfort and stability, potentially easing morning anxieties.
Such morning habits can help create healthy communication habits, allowing for regular check-ins. This can make it a cornerstone of a healthy and strong relationship.
If we’re in a long-distance relationship, this can also help each other feel less lonely by showing the other person that they’re on our mind (The Economic Times, 2025). Hopefully, this will give a sense of closeness even though we’re far away. This is because a good morning text helps express warmth and helps reinforce your connection with the other person.
I came across a question on Girls Ask Guys, where two people are messaging each other and trying to see if a relationship is on the cards over several weeks, when things take a turn when the guy sends a good morning text. Now she’s thinking this is significant, and it could well be, because this hasn’t happened with this person. People have voted on what they think it means. Why not check it out and see if your thoughts align with the others who have voted by clicking here.
Sometimes it’s the little things that mean the most (Steber, 2020). Think about it. What are some of your best memories with your partner, parents, and friends? For example, I don’t have a great relationship with my mum, but I will always remember that she would take me to the park to play football with me because my friends were in the year above me and started school before me.
Even in a professional setting, a thoughtful morning message can boost morale, strengthen team bonds, and encourage a proactive mindset, leading to better collaboration and engagement.
Summary
Good morning texts are a small gesture with a big impact. They contribute to emotional wellbeing, strengthen connections, and help foster a positive start to the day. Whether it’s a romantic partner, a friend, a family member, or even a colleague, a well-timed “good morning” can make a significant difference.

My best friend and I text each other good morning every day. It’s good to get my day started.
That’s sounds like a really nice friendship
This is so interesting. I definitely think my overall day goes better because I’ve received a good morning text. The days when I haven’t for whatever reason, are a lot more negative mentally.
It is such a simple yet nice gesture. Thanks for sharing
What you and your partner are doing is so sweet. Yup, a good morning text is a good affirmation. My best friend love sending me and her other galpals good morning texts. I’m grateful for that.
Thank you
I really like this idea. We have a family group chat with my husband and our daughters that I can start posting a morning message in every day. Thanks for the suggestion.
Sounds like a nice thing to do with your family
A good morning text is a great way for my day to start off, puts me in a good mood instantly!
